What Do You Want To Do?

From my recent interview with Briar Rose Consulting on having a writing schedule, the publishing process, and my top tip.

“What do you want to do?”

While I open my book of poetry, Personified, with this line for my nieces and the young women in my life, I invite you to consider it as well. Let it sit with you for a while, and come back to it as often as you need to today, and for the rest of your life.

It’s something I ask myself often.

When it comes to what food I want to put into my body, I now often consider if I want the momentary taste of something sugary or the lasting benefits of something more natural.

When it comes to my day, I think about what to do in the hours I have, and how I’ll feel at the end of the day. Do I want to go to bed at night looking back and thinking, wow, I watched a lot of TV today? Or would I feel better if I looked back and thought, wow, I edited another chapter – or even a single page – of my novel draft?

My friend and former F+W Media colleague, Caitlin Polasek, now of Briar Rose Consulting*, found the question as moving as I would have hoped for my readers. Recently she brought it up as one of the first questions in her interview with me.

In the interview, published at BriarRoseConsult.com, we also discussed:

  • Writing and publishing
  • Having both a day-career and side passion projects
  • How the fire arts influenced my life as a creative
  • And more

I try to be my best every day, or at the very least, not to make myself slide the other direction. So that involves sticking to my habits of exercise, clean eating, writing, and taking care of the house. Anyway, thanks for this post!
