My mother tried to teach me to ignore other people when they upset me; it was part of the ongoing attempts to find a solution to dealing with mean kids in the “Wild West” of 7th – 10th grade. Easier said than done, but as I grew I was able to part ways with the group that tormented me. I graduated high school and found a new appreciation for education in college with more mature peers.
Adulthood brought with it the ability to choose who I wanted to be around.
