It’s no secret that yoga is a life-changing practice. One of the ways it has brought me more happiness is through meeting more like-minded people who are on similar quests to things like self-improvement, inner peace, world peace, and more.
Meditation, of course, is one of the vehicles for all of these. So when I met some new friends through a weekly meetup called Writer’s Thingamajig, which includes a creativity-themed meditation, it seemed only natural that we would end up sharing our meditation scripts with a broader audience. Our hope: To inspire creativity and inspiration.
I am honored to have collaborated with multimedia artist and mindfulness educator Santosh David and Kentucky artist and writer Melissa Mattingly to come up with the eBook “From Meditation to Creation: 9 Guided Meditations for Creative Writing.”
What Meditation Means to Me
(an excerpt from the eBook “From Meditation to Creation“)
Meditation, while universal, is a deeply personal experience. If you already meditate, you can probably relate to some of the concepts of what meditation means to me, whether you realize it on a conscious or subconscious level. That said, to me, meditation is a reminder that I’m connected to something higher, and perhaps it’s a bridge to that higher being. There are moments when I feel this in a way that can’t be explained, and those moments keep me coming back.
Meditation seems like a passive activity. Perhaps that’s why I, and so many others, find it difficult to slow down and do the practice. We’re raised in a culture where being busy is not only the norm, but is something to be striven for. Because of this, in what seems like a normal way to function, when I meditate I’m actively working on being more positive, more peaceful, more passive. Ironic, I know.
It’s so easy for the mind to search for something to think about, be it events in the past, or fantasies for the future. This isn’t new information; but when the realization of this is new, it gives us the opportunity to question our thought habits. It gives us a reason to stop the automatic voices in our heads, and to instead search for that silence, which is where we find things like truth and peace. ~Cherie Dawn
