Pro Tip: Don’t Ugly Cry While Driving

An excerpt from LifeSoup, September 2023

I feel like I would be lying to you if I didn’t admit that I hit a period of intense struggle since the last time I sent this newsletter.

Complaining about the little things isn’t my normal practice, so it might seem that my life is perfect all the time. Of course, it’s not. I have annoyances and problems, but my perception of what is “perfect” has changed over the years, as well as how I respond to conflicts. It can be a slow change to live a happier life, but it often comes down to choosing gratitude.

If this sounds like a path you’d like to take a stroll down, try this: Instead of thinking, “I have to go grocery shopping and fill up my gas tank,” see what it feels like to think of it this way: “I get to go grocery shopping and fill up my gas tank.” Try to find gratitude in the fact that you probably have a clean, safe place to buy healthy food of your choice, and if you’re lucky enough to own a car, that’s something to be grateful for as well.

That’s just one little yoga trick I like to use. Another one that’s similar but more challenging is watching my thoughts and changing my mind when it’s not being helpful… (sign up for the LifeSoup newsletter here so you don’t miss future messages like this!)
