A Poem for the Month of March

This month, I’m sharing with you a poem about … well, I’ll let you guess. 😉 It’s from my book, “Personified,” which you can find through any bookseller, including Kindle.

This is in honor of my upcoming appearance as the featured poet of the month at Roebling Books & Coffee. If you can’t join me there, then please enjoy the following poem:

You were there for me all through the winter

Even as early as fall

Every morning, I woke, comfortable and warm in bed

And the idea that moved my feet to the floor

Was you.

I never got sick of you. Well, the idea of you, anyway.

I took you places you weren’t supposed to be—

The car, for example. I held the wheel with only one hand

Simply because I needed you in the other.

On curves, I’d even hastily put you between my knees.

The danger!

Some days, you made me shake.

But that didn’t stop me from having you.

My favorite was to find you unexpectedly

At a gas station, or a mutual friend’s house.

Even at night, I’d welcome your strength and warmth.

But alas!

Spring is so close that I can feel her in my hair

I’ll find what I need elsewhere

And I won’t need you

As much.

I’ll remember you, finally, until next fall

When life fades to dormancy

And you’ll be my rock again.
