Welcome to this edition of LifeSoup.

When I was in college I discovered a poem titled “One Art” by Elizabeth Bishop. I so loved one of the verses that I memorized it and repeated it to myself over the years whenever I needed a reminder that loss doesn’t have to be a “disaster,” as she insinuates. 

We lose so many things – jewelry, motivation, sleep, just to name a few. Here’s how I manage to reflect on the concept of loss in an essay I wrote for Poetry Unites Kentucky, a contest in which I came within the top eight finalists. It’s not lost on me that I didn’t win the top spot. [read the essay]  

Also, now that my family is getting our vaccinations in order and it feels safer to travel, we took a mini Spring Break road trip to Indianapolis, Indiana.
