When a friend asked me to talk with her teen daughter and answer questions about how to write a novel, I enthusiastically said, “Yes!” We did the calendar dance, and between having conflicting schedules and the global pandemic we’re all experiencing, I realized that meeting in person was proving to be a challenge.
Like many other creatives in the world today, I decided to go online and answer each question to the best of my ability. I have a B.A. in English (minor in Journalism), and have been in the publishing industry since 2005 in various capacities, have self-published one novel and a book of poetry* and my second novel is in the works. While I don’t consider myself an expert in anything except getting eye rolls from my 16-year-old son, I know enough about writing and publishing to give honest advice to friends and readers like you. 🙂
Which brings me to Facebook Live: You can now check out a variety of my Facebook Live videos for writers, where I answer my friend’s daughter’s questions about things like how to write a novel and how to publish a novel, as well as how to stay motivated throughout the project.

*Regarding my book of poetry…I JUST PUBLISHED A BOOK OF POETRY! Whew. Thanks for bearing with me through the all-caps. More to come on this, but in the meantime, you can get your copy of “Personified: Poetry, Prose, Short Stories, and Words of Advice for Young People” here or through your local book seller.
P.S.
Recently while doing research for my upcoming novel, I discovered a fellow writer online that I think you’ll appreciate as well. The site is Jacqui Murray’s “Word Dreams,” and features articles such as “57 Ways to Describe Talking in a Novel.” I’ll be coming back to this one again as I refine my draft!
